Star Wars, also known in Spanish as The war of the galaxies, is a franchise of media that belongs to the genre of the space opera epic,Note 1 conceived by screenwriter, film director and producer George Lucas.
The first film of the franchise, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, featured actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, Peter Cushingy David Prowse. Although he had many difficulties during production, 20th Century Fox is in charge of its distribution, and its premiere took place on 25 may 1977.1 Years later, it became a phenomenon of popular culture worldwide and its influence has been recognized by many filmmakers.23 The success of the film made Lucas get involved in the financing of the two sequels which completed the so-called "original trilogy", Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, which incorporated new actors like Billy Dee Williams, Frank Oz eIan McDiarmid, and were performed in intervals of three years.2
Sixteen years after that came to the cinemas, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, the first tape of a new trilogy focused on the years prior to the above, a prequel to the saga. Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee were some of the main members of the cast, which also counted with the presence of some actors from the original trilogy. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, released again at intervals of three years, completed a series of productions that raised approximately 5510 USD million americans between the six films,4 making it the third most successful of all time5 behind the franchises of James Bond and Harry Potter, without considering the corresponding adjustments for inflation.6 In October 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm, and announced the production of a new film trilogy, whose first movie will be premiered in December 2015.7
